Take the time to read these quotes, think about them for a little while then read what my take is on them. I really do think that these three books can change your life. Trust me, there is much more useful knowledge in these books that all of you can benefit from.
1. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
Has anyone here ever accomplished their dream? What did you do after you fulfilled your dream? Celebrated? Kicked back and relaxed? You didn't just stop there did you?
The way I interpret this quote is that even after accomplishing one dream you shouldn't just stop there. Not that you shouldn't enjoy what you have gone through to get to where you wanted to be, but actually not continuing on to another goal I think is wasteful.
So keep on striving for more and more and don't just settle for what you have otherwise life may become dull. You might as well be stuck in a rut of the daily grind if you don't desire more in your life than you currently have.
2. Second Chance by Robert Kiyosaki
Wow, I absolutely love this quote specially in the internet age people are stuffing their brains with useless information most of the time. This is a problem I see getting worse with the millennials as they constantly check their phones for the latest gossip or post, comment and look at pictures of their friends or celebrities. It doesn't seem as bad with Gen-Xs but the places we get our information from and the type of information we search for is definitely having an effect on everyone no matter how old or young.
Now I want you to think about how many hours a day you spend reading about celebrity gossip, looking at friends' photos on Instagram or Facebook and doing things that are generally unproductive. Next think about how many hours a day you spend on trying to learn something new or improving a skill you already have.
If the celebrity gossip, photos and general unproductive activities outweigh learning something new or improving a skill you already have then you need to rethink about how you spend your time. It's not a problem spending a short time, maybe 30 minutes max per day, on social media or stalking your favourite celebrity, but you need to make sure you budget your time wisely to include topics such as, in my case, how to market your blog, tips about leadership and many more. Just pick something that interests you and go with it.
The main point here is that whatever you put into your brain whether it's through what you read, watch or do effects the 'quality' of the ideas you have. We have ideas everyday and it's up to you whether those ideas are useful or not. Your mind is an asset. Knowledge is an asset. If you put the right two assets together then you're bound to eventually become successful in whatever field you're in.
3. TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking by Chris Anderson
Although all of the first three qualities of this quote are still important in public speaking the last one carries most of the weight.
Just think about presenting about something that doesn't have any worth or practical use to anyone. No matter how confident, good looking or fluent you are with the language you use, the presentation will fall flat and people will forget about it within the following hour.
If you take something that really has value that you know people will appreciate and you go out in front of 500 people and say what you have to say while still engaging them with average traditional presentation skills (eye contact, gestures, body language, intonation, etc...), then no doubt your audience will at least remember your speech for the rest of the week. If you're lucky then they will remember it for a lifetime.
Now if you take the same previous situation, you still have something of worth to say, but you totally fail on the traditional presentation skills I personally believe that some people will actually remember what you had to say for a while even though you might not have wowed them with your presence.
You do have to be careful to in-cooperate traditional presentation skills along with the worthiness of your topic because if you want to be remembered for the speech you gave and not have people just remember the content you gave them then you must have a strong stage presence.
I always try to put these quotes to use in my personal and work life. Maybe these quotes can also help inspire you to do and achieve more.
1. Always dream
2. Put useful knowledge in your brain
3. Make what you say worth remembering
